Melyssa writes to Indy Star over biased reporting -- steps down as activist group's media contact

Greetings Reporters & Editors of the Indy Star,

I am writing to bring to your attention the recent article "Cameras in unusual places" did not present both sides fairly without bias. Nor did the Indy Star reporters verify facts with the activists. I was represented in the article, yet no one from the Indy Star quoted me. Is that fair and unbiased reporting? In addition I did not take a single photograph. There were others at the event, including African American democratic precinct committeeman, Abu Henderson. None of the other participants, who would have gladly given the Indy Star an interview, were quoted.

My former career of more than two years ago has nothing to do with the tax activist work I do now. Why didn't you mention my current employer? People want to know why the Indy Star continues to mention my former career of two years ago in nearly every article you write about my political activism work. Many people believe the Indy Star is working on behalf of Mayor Peterson and the Democratic Party.

More than one person has come to me with the rumor that every article that has to do with Bart Peterson and the election is run by the 25th floor of the City County Building before print. I have no way of knowing this is true, but you can bet that more than one person is talking about it and asking around. The Star has a duty to provide its readers with the most ethical journalistic standards possible. If your reporters were fair and unbiased, they would have taken quotes from the minority activists at the event, rather than focus on my completely unrelated former career.

Regarding the quote you published about me wanting attention, nothing could be further from the truth. It is so far from the truth that I asked another dedicated activist to take my place as media spokesperson for Hoosiers For Fair Taxation. In addition I will also openly publish this letter on our blog. We have 1000's of supporters in the city, many of whom are becoming more and more disillusioned with the biased reporting that we get from the Indy Star.

I am disheartened because our citizens deserve to know more about the activists' position than the constant cheap shots you take at me.

Sincerely,
Melyssa Donaghy

Thanks Melyssa for your tireless work and for showing up at every single
meeting and protest. Thanks for representing those who couldn't be there. You've done a great job for HFT-So what, on what they say-they do it to demean you and those who fight back against the lies and scams perpetrated on the public.
