Melyssa's Paycheck

$920.33 Federal Income Tax
$378.83 Social Security Tax
$ 88.60 Medicare Tax
$207.74 Indiana State Income Tax
$ 98.98 Marion County Income Tax

$1,694.48 is the total bill for my productivity this pay period that I am forced to hand over to the government. This is partly why I'm a liberty activist and a proud Libertarian soldier.

(I normally don't look at these numbers because it causes my stomach to get tied into knots. and that could lead to ulcers and a whole array of expensive associated health issues.)

Melyssa called to volunteer for Ballard's re-election campaign

I received a phone call today from a very polite young man at GOP HQ who said I had been identified as a Ballard supporter who would volunteer for his campaign activities.

He staffer did not know who I am. I explained the tax activist movement I led in 2007 that was key in ushering in his victory. I explained that citizens like myself worked thousands of hours in extremes of weather to help get Ballard elected, to be betrayed in the end.

I emphasized that Ballard will not get our support again unless he keeps his campaign promises to end country club politics, to not raise even a single tax, and said we expect Mayor Ballard to join with city councilman Ed Coleman and call for the CIB to file bankruptcy so that The People can renegotiate all the bad contracts entered into by previous administrations.

I also warned that folks are already planning now to actively work against Mayor Ballard in his re-election bid if he fails to do the above.

The volunteer staffer told me he would have someone higher up call me back.

I do not hold my breath that call will come.

Mayor Greg Ballard will be available for a question and answer session with Center Township residents on Tuesday May 12.

Residents are encouraged to come out to ask questions, however you can bet your question won't be heard if you ask the mayor why the city is not considering filing bankruptcy for the CIB or why the CIB employees were given raises, or why the CIB is not considering giving the stadium back to the State of Indiana, the rightful owner.

Mayor Meeting with Local Leaders Today

Well the mayor is meeting with local business leaders and legislators today to come up with ideas on how to fix the CIB problem. I find this interesting as the local legislative body is the City-County Council. Who are these leaders he is meeting with. Is it a few Republican insiders? Is there a token Democrat invited to show bipartisanship. You would think if he wanted good ideas and solutions from a legislator who always puts the taxpayers first he would call the only Libertarian on the council. Oh wait, that's me. Heck, he has not attempted to talk with me since the election of 2007. Guess I am just not an insider. I have another name for insider, "Brown Nose" or better yet, "Tool".

I think I will have to put together a post with the best obvious answers to fix the CIB problem. In the mean time I would tell the mayor to remember the taxpayers first. They are the people who shed their blood, sweat and tears to make this city a World Class City. Forget about giving more money to millionaires and come up with a good way to give more money back to the taxpayer.

I like the mayor. Don't get me wrong. I do think he has been misled by certain individuals. I think that he needs to go back and watch his acceptance speech from 2007. Find that mayor you wanted to be and forget the special interests. Especially the attorneys with questionable conflicts of interest. Be the mayor you were voted to be.

Thoughts on Tonights Council Meeting

Another council meeting has come and gone. We recognized former council president Dr. Servaas for his 90th birthday. All I can say is that if I live to 90, I hope I can be in as good of health and spirit. With his comments it is no wonder he led the city council for so long. Congratulations Dr. Servaas on reaching 90 years old.

The vote was on the agenda tonight to merge the Perry Township fire department with IFD. It seems that there are a number of Democrats and a few Republicans that would not support the proposal so it was sent back to committee for further discussion. Funny how when former Mayor Peterson wanted merger all the Democrats supported the idea. Back then it was just a way to bail out a financially broke IFD. Today, Mayor Ballard wants to merge the departments to reduce costs and to have a more uniform training and services throughout the county. Funny how the Democrats change their opinion so quickly when it is not in their best political interest.

We also passed the proposal funding the arts community with 1 million dollars of tax payer money. It is a shame that both Republican and Democrat leaders were so quick to use taxpayer dollars to fund private organizations tonight. In a time when the city budget is already looking to go into the red this year this is not the time to be frivolous with taxpayers hard earned dollars. This is one of the few times I will give kudos to the current CIB leadership. At least they have recognized this fact and discussed cutting the funding for the arts. FYI, I voted no on this.

There were a few other proposals of slight interest. I will say the most interesting comment tonight came from Councilor Lutz. A proposal to introduce two new members to the new ethics committee were voted on tonight. I asked about their resumes as to were these two attorneys practice law. He quickly responded that he is not sure and that neither work for Barnes and Thornburg. He did later come up with the answer thought. The funny thing is how quickly he commented on Barnes and Thornburg. I am not sure if it was intended, but I find this to be an admission of a conflict with B&T when he comments so quickly on something I did not ask directly about.

I am off to work for the night. Keep up the good fight and don't let up. With more Liberty minded individuals speaking up, maybe we can get more of our leaders to come to their senses.
