4th of July property tax rally & Melyssa's take of the event

"The fact that gas prices and our property taxes and the price of goods and the war in Iraq all has the same root cause - it is all ungoverned government."
--Andy Horning at July 4th Rally
.
All of Indianapolis' media turned out to give the rally coverage and made mention of the Libertarians' message that the answer to the property tax crisis is to obey the rule of law as set forth in Indiana's constitution.
.
Libertarian candidates for office were in attendance including Andy Horning for Governor, Tim Maguire for Pike Township Advisory Board, Ed Angleton for State Representative District 100, and Steve Keltner for Indiana Senate (replacing incumbent Teresa Lubbers).
.
Steve Keltner has yard signs available. If you live in Meridian Kessler or surrounding areas and wish to support abolishment of property tax and want a sign, feel free to take one from my front porch at 4169 Central. Please leave a note with your name and address in the mail slot, so I can pass your support on to Steve.
.
Jim Shella of Channel 8 made the point that yesterday's rally was poorly attended in comparison to last year's rally which closed Meridian Street for more than one hour. Most of the attendees blamed the weather, but I have a different take.
.
The night before the rally I received a phone call from a Pike Township woman in her 60's frantic about her property tax bill which increased from $3,000 a year to $10,000. Her son researched answers for her on the internet and found my phone number on this site, which prompted her to call me. I spoke with her for more than an hour about our politicians' failure to obey the rule of law and explained that it is up to each of us to do our part to force our servant politicians to obey the Constitution. I told her that freedom is not free and it is important that she attend the rally. She told me that she did not think she could attend because she had to go to a cookout, but thanked me for all I do.
.
How many people out there are like this woman who refuse to make the smallest of sacrifices to go out for one measly hour in the rain to make their voice heard? Our ancestors of the American Revolution made great sacrifice when they fought for our independence. They gave up more than an hour away from a family barbeque to protest in the rain. They left farms and family, and as Andy Horning pointed out to me yesterday, few of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence were able to keep their wealth and their land. Yet many property owners outraged by the lack of response from our legislators would make the very small sacrifice to stand in the rain for one hour.
.
American Revolution patriots made the sacrifice of their very lives, yet most of today's Americans won't skip a damned picnic for Liberty.
.
Apathy and a feeling of hopelessness is exactly what the politicians count on from you. They want you so distracted by your lives that you don't bother to fight for your freedom.
.
If you are feeling guilty about doing nothing while others stood up for your Liberty, then make a donation to Andy Horning's campaign. This will help Andy Horning and Lisa Kelly afford the expenses of travelling the state with his message of obedience to our state's constitution and the rule of law. Andy Horning is the only candidate running for office that will enforce the state's constitution.
