Filing a property tax appeal....time is running out! Advice from a local appraiser who specializes in appeals

HURRY UP!
Get your appeal submitted to your county assessor
before July 18th!

Here is some useful information along with links that will assist Marion County property taxpayers (residential and commercial), in the event they wish to file an appeal.

The first link connects you to the Marion County Assessor's website. There you can access anything from press releases to sales disclosures.

In the upper left hand corner of the Assessor's website you will see a drop down tab called "Property Tax Appeal" which includes all information regarding filing an appeal.

If you wish to bypass a lot of information and go directly to the appeal form itself, I suggest going to the second link where you will find the form itself.

After eleven years in the business as a property tax appraiser specializing in appeals, I suggest the following:

Even though the townships are accespting appeals, I heavily recommend that you file your appeal with the Marion County Assessor's Office located in the City-County Building, 11th floor, 200 E. Washington, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Phone is 317-327-4907

When filing your appeal, submit one original and one copy. The most frequently asked question is whether it is necessary to submit all your evidence with the appeal? The answer is "no". You can supply the evidence later.

Considering the filing date is looming, don't wait until the last minute. File your appeal as soon as possible!

To be on the safe side, if mailing versus filing in person, send your appeal via certified mail.

Homeowners are welcome to phone with questions.
