Local citizens calls for volunteerism to save small parks slated for auction block

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

There would be no talk of selling the city’s small parks if the property owners of Indianapolis were not taxed to the max. The taxpayer well is dry, and one major reason is the previous administration’s generous use of tax abatements.

So, here’s a challenge to the multimillionaire developers and residents of the lavish downtown condominiums who have enjoyed these tax abatements: get together and provide funding for the pocket parks. Give something back to the city in appreciation for the property tax bill that we, the longtime homeowners, are paying for you. You would undoubtedly receive a tidy deduction on your federal income tax as well. The children, the taxpayers, and even you would come out ahead.

Signed,
Nan, Indianapolis

With all the park complaining, I haven't seen much from the local residents surrounding those parks on their initiatives to contribute time and money themselves.
