It is almost fall and finally the commission is bringing together citizens to present plans for property tax repeal. Some legislators (not all) say cannot be done because the "numbers don't work". Funny, thing is that no politician has said specifically why the numbers from plans submitted by two independent, world class economists don't work.
Representative Peggy Welch (D) from Bloomington organized the meeting. She asked me to present a plan. I am working as a team with Dave Bond from StopIndiana.com and property tax repeal advocate Steve Keltner, who is running for Indiana Senate, District 30. Steve's website has a wealth of ideas for policy reform for Indiana, including brilliant plans to bring down the cost of healthcare. I believe we will speak shortly after 9am today.
Eric Miller, another active property tax repeal advocate will also speak. Miller's Advance America commissioned economist Dr. Craig Johnson, to write a plan for property tax repeal.
A troubling aspect of the meeting is that, while it will be broadcast live over the internet for those that cannot attend, the meeting will be archived. So if you work during the day, you might miss it. You can watch the live video here.
Hopefully we will be able to capture video while we are there.
Future meeting dates for the Commission are scheduled for 9/23, 10/8, 10/23 and 11/10.
