Rather than devote countless hours of my life to the flouride issue, I simply had Cooper's Water Conditioning come over and install a reverse osmosis system.

I have separate water tap installed right on my sink. I use it for cooking, iced tea, and drinking. It's great. Totally worth the $400.

And it's not just the flouride. The chlorine the city uses is the cheap kind and should not be consumed over long periods. Also, at times there can be fecal matter in the water.

Of course they will tell you this isn't true and that the water is completely safe.

I've talked to water treatment guys who told me they wouldn't drink it.
