PRESS RELEASE FROM MAYOR-ELECT BALLARD:
Ballard Applauds Governor Daniels, Kernan-Shepard Commission
.
Indianapolis-Indianapolis Mayor-elect Greg Ballard today said, "The recommendations of the Kernan-Shepard Commission are good news for taxpayers. The Commission's reforms establish a "buck stops here" framework for local government. I applaud Governor Daniels for establishing this group and encouraging them to be bold and innovative."
.
Ballard continued, "The report includes two important principles that I fully support. First, it calls for changes to make government more accountable, transparent and less costly by reducing its size, including the number of local elected officials. It also contains a recommendation I heard over and over again on the campaign trail and that is the power to tax should be limited to elected officials."
.
"These recommendations still allow us to carry on the important work of local government, but advocates the streamlining of local government, eliminates the outdated layers and gives us a real chance to reduce taxpayer costs. Even more important, these recommendations give taxpayers a greater voice because local government will be more accountable and easier for the average citizen to navigate. The work of Governor Daniels and the Kernan-Shepard Commission represents a bi-partisan step in the right direction."

Someone must be expecting a gyroscope for Christmas...
The box is still wrapped but, I can hear something spinning.
