Is Obama following in the footsteps of his white ancestors?

The facts below regarding history's treatment of racism were left for us as a comment. I abhor racism and racists and decided this particular comment deserved its own headline.
Melyssa for HFFT

Obama and his white ancestors are part of the Democratic Party that:
(1) fought to keep blacks in slavery;
(2) started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize Republicans—black and white;
(3) passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws;
(4) fought every piece of civil rights legislation from the 1860's to the 1960's;
(5) attacked Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other civil rights protesters with skin-burning fire hoses and vicious dogs.

Obama refuses to give credit to the Republican Party that:
(1) started in 1854 as the anti-slavery party and fought to free blacks from slavery;
(2) amended the Constitution to grant blacks freedom, citizenship and the right to vote;
(3) started the NAACP to stop the Democrats from lynching blacks;
(4) passed the civil rights laws of the 1860's that were overturned by the Democrats when they took over Congress in 1892;
(5) founded the HBCUs;
(6) started affirmative action enforcement in 1969 to help blacks get jobs and contracts based on merit;
(7) fought the Democrats for over six decades until Republicans finally achieved passage of the civil rights laws of the 1950's and 1960's under the leadership of Republican Senator Everett Dirksen of Illinois.

It defies logic for Democrats to claim that, after Republicans spent over 100 years fighting the Democrats on behalf of blacks and finally won, all the racist Democrats suddenly rushed into the Republican Party. In fact, those racist Democrats declared that that they would rather vote for a "yellow dog" than a Republican because the Republican Party was known as the party for blacks.

Facts about the racist past of the Democratic Party can be found in such books as:
A Short History of Reconstruction by Dr. Eric Foner
Unfounded Loyalty by Rev. Wayne Perryman
Bamboozled by Angela McGlowan
Wrong on Race by Bruce Bartlett

My sista:

Yeah, but you keep forgetting the ESSENTIAL FACT:

Notice, the dates of all of this acts? The latest date you mention is the 1960's.

While we shouldn't still live in the past, we must also not hold allegiance to a party and people who are dead and long gone. The Republican party of 2008 is NOT the same party and all those people are dead...

Live in the PRESENT and perform your measurement and calculations regarding the republican party and African-Americans, who governs the White House, our state capitol and the city of Indianapolis, based upon a snapshot of in 2008. Go ahead, write down all the accomplishments they are contributing to African-Americans TODAY, right NOW in Indianapolis, in Indiana, in America.

The list is EXTREMELY SHORT and the ones you will mention are for 'display only'.

I've learned to let white people fight their own battle with other blacks. If you win it for them, you'll find you're still a 'n-word' to them.

By the way, what have they done for YOU lately, except perhaps give you lip service and their business card and accomodate you with a meeting to satisfy your need to be socially accepted by whites in the republican party?

When did this blog lose its focus on property taxes and deteriorate into perpetual Obama-bashing? I'm not overly impressed with Obama, but some of the stuff that's appeared on here is childish in its extremism. I'm also very disappointed that McCain appears to have abandoned his maverick nature and sold out to the extreme right wing. I can't see myself voting for a woman who would force another woman to bear the child of a rapist and call that "pro-life". In short, nobody in this election is speaking for me. But that's not what this blog was supposed to be about! We are STILL IN DANGER OF LOSING OUR HOMES. This blog energized the fight last year and helped us bring about some REAL change in Indy -- IF we keep at it. Let's get back to the point before people stop reading!

Thank you so much.

I fail to see how bashing Obama on behalf of the Republicans by a Libertarian furthers "Fair taxation for Hoosiers".

This election has truly brought the, ever so slight, racism out of people.

These anonymous comments are no doubt out-of-state Camp Obama internet addicts who do nothing all day but find anything negatively written about Obama and leave comments insinuating the author is RACIST!

I'm so racist that my favorite roommate ever was black AND gay.

Get over yourselves Obamaholics.
