Horning to present economic plan

Indianapolis - Libertarian candidate for Indiana governor, Andy Horning, will announce his economic plan to protect Hoosiers in these tough economic times.
Monday, Horning and his running mate, Lisa Kelly, will present a six-point plan, which includes issuance of "state currency," backed by silver or gold.
"As Governor, I will fight for Hoosier families by immediately and significantly cutting the parasitic drain of unconstitutional government, and invoke the Sound Money policy as described in our state constitution," Horning said.
Horning says the move will protect Hoosiers against the dwindling U-S dollar.
Horning is making his announcement at 2pm Monday at the Indiana State House.

While the HFFT crowd is definitely behind Andy Horning for Governor and his constitutional platform, we gotta give kudos to Governor Mitch Daniels for the recent honor he received by being named one of just a short list of public officials of the year by Governing Magazine.
Governor Daniels was selected for putting our state on a solid financial footing in an era when most states are in fiscal trouble and for the health care reforms he implemented. Governing Magazine did not mention how well he straightened out the license branches, but we like that reform too.
Congrats to our Governor. You make Hoosiers proud!

An alternative economic plan: THE COOK PLAN
- Non-taxable vouchers should be issued at the rate of $1,000 per month per adult and $500 per month per child which may be used for food, housing, fuel, communications media, utilities, and educational services provided at outlets within the U.S. Distribution of vouchers may be delegated to state and local governments.

City Councilor-at-large, Ed Coleman, against giving water company power to fine citizens'
Ed Coleman sounds like a good Libertarian here and is acting as a good Republican should! We don't like the idea of giving the water company power to turn off a service we pay for either, Ed. Thanks for the heads up. Here's the letter he sent to us today:
Hey All,
I wanted to throw out something here to you all for discussion. There is a proposal that will be heard on Tuesday that propose's that the water company be given the right to fine and even terminate service to individuals who use water their lawns during an announced water conservation time. There are other parts in it, so I will attach the proposal for you all to view.
My position at this time is that I will not support it. I think that it is unfair to the citizens of the Indianapolis. The proposal only applies to those people living in the "Consolidated City". It will not apply to those in the four excluded cities and towns within our borders. Also, it will not apply to those people in other counties that receive their water from the same pipes that we receive ours. That means the people of Carmel and other towns outside of the county can continue to use water with no penalty even though it comes from the same place.
Also, I find in to be ridiculous to allow a private companies employee's to determine who is in violation and to give the fines. Just because Veolia runs the water does not mean they own it. But if they determine you have excessively violated the ordinance they can decide on their own to cut you off. Unless you have a well, you have no choice as to where the water comes from. Should an employee of Veolia have the right to cut you off? NO.
I could go on and on, but I want to hear what you all think. This will be heard Tuesday evening during the Rules and Public Policy meeting. If you feel as I do, I suggest attending and speaking against this proposal. We don't need government telling us how to use the water that we pay for. A point to note: an official drought has only occurred and handful of times in our lifetimes.

Maryland Police Put Activists' Names On Terror Lists
Surveillance's Reach Revealed

The Maryland State Police classified 53 nonviolent activists as terrorists and entered their names and personal information into state and federal databases that track terrorism suspects, the state police chief acknowledged yesterday.
Police Superintendent Terrence B. Sheridan revealed at a legislative hearing that the surveillance operation, which targeted opponents of the death penalty and the Iraq war, was far more extensive than was known when its existence was disclosed in July.
The department started sending letters of notification Saturday to the activists, inviting them to review their files before they are purged from the databases, Sheridan said.
"The names don't belong in there," he told the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee. "It's as simple as that."
The surveillance took place over 14 months in 2005 and 2006, under the administration of former governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R). The former state police superintendent who authorized the operation, Thomas E. Hutchins, defended the program in testimony yesterday. Hutchins said the program was a bulwark against potential violence and called the activists "fringe people."
Sheridan said protest groups were also entered as terrorist organizations in the databases, but his staff has not identified which ones.
Stunned senators pressed Sheridan to apologize to the activists for the spying, assailed in an independent review last week as "overreaching" by law enforcement officials who were oblivious to their violation of the activists' rights of free expression and association. The letter, obtained by The Washington Post, does not apologize but admits that the state police have "no evidence whatsoever of any involvement in violent crime" by those classified as terrorists.
Hutchins told the committee it was not accurate to describe the program as spying. "I doubt anyone who has used that term has ever met a spy," he told the committee.
"What John Walker did is spying," Hutchins said, referring to John Walker Jr., a communications specialist for the U.S. Navy convicted of selling secrets to the Soviet Union. Hutchins said the intelligence agents, whose logs were obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland as part of a lawsuit, were monitoring "open public meetings." His officers sought a "situational awareness" of the potential for disruption as death penalty opponents prepared to protest the executions of two men on death row, Hutchins said.
"I don't believe the First Amendment is any guarantee to those who wish to disrupt the government," he said. Hutchins said he did not notify Ehrlich about the surveillance. Ehrlich spokesman Henry Fawell said the governor had no comment.
Hutchins did not name the commander in the Division of Homeland Security and Intelligence who informed him in March 2005 that the surveillance had begun. More than a year later, after "they said, 'We're not getting much here,' " Hutchins said he cut off what he called a "low-level operation."
But Sen. James Brochin (D-Baltimore County) noted that undercover troopers used aliases to infiltrate organizational meetings, rallies and group e-mail lists. He called the spying a "deliberate infiltration to find out every piece of information necessary" on groups such as the Maryland Campaign to End the Death Penalty and the Baltimore Pledge of Resistance. When Hutchins called their members "fringe people," the audience of activists who filled the seats in the hearing room in Annapolis sighed.
Some activists said yesterday that they have received letters; others said they were waiting with anticipation to see whether they were on the state police watch list.
Laura Lising of Catonsville, a member of the Baltimore Coalition Against the Death Penalty, received her notification yesterday. She said she wants a hard copy of her file, because she does not trust the police to purge it. "We need as much protection as possible," she said.
Both Hutchins and Sheridan said the activists' names were entered into the state police database as terrorists partly because the software offered limited options for classifying entries.
The police also entered the activists' names into the federal Washington-Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area database, which tracks suspected terrorists. One well-known antiwar activist from Baltimore, Max Obuszewski, was singled out in the intelligence logs released by the ACLU, which described a "primary crime" of "terrorism-anti-government" and a "secondary crime" of "terrorism-anti-war protesters."
Sheridan said that he did not think the names were circulated to other agencies in the federal system and that they are not on the federal government's terrorist watch list. Hutchins said some names might have been shared with the National Security Agency.
Although the independent report on the surveillance released last week said that it was part of a broad effort by the state police to gather information on protest groups across the state, Sheridan said the department is not aware of any surveillance as "intrusive" as the spying on death penalty and war opponents.
The police notified the protesters at the recommendation of former U.S. attorney and state attorney general Stephen H. Sachs, who was appointed by Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) to review the covert monitoring. In a report last week, Sachs also recommended regulations that forbid such spying on protest groups unless the state police chief believes it is justified.
"I can't imagine getting a letter that says, 'You've been classified as a terrorist; come in and we'll tell about it,'" said Sen. Bryan W. Simonaire (R-Anne Arundel). Two senators noted that they had been arrested years ago for civil disobedience. Sen. Jennie Forehand (D-Montgomery) asked Sheridan, "Do you have any legislators on your list?" The answer was no.

Big Hoosier Hat Tip to Patriot Paul for sending us a link to Market Watch's report of pack of 18 Californian Libertarian Congressional candidates who joined forces today to ask if the Political Action Committees (PACs/lobbyists) openly bought the bailout votes from members of Congress.
HFFT thinks our country's Libertarians are definitely on to something. KUDOS to Market Watch for covering it. The story even includes a chart which tells you exactly how much each Congressperson who voted FOR the bailout, took from the PACs in 2008.

Melyssa receives relief on property tax bill from Countrywide Mortgage
I reported one month ago that I was facing a $400 per month increase in my mortgage payment to my escrow escrow account to cover the shortage of funds to pay the 2007 makeup bill and the higher property tax.
Countrywide was purchased by Bank of America and I knew that they were going to implement programs starting December 1st to help homeowners in danger of foreclosure due to subprime mortgages.
Although I knew programs were developed for high risk sub-prime borrowers, and I am not one of those mortgages, I called anyway. I honestly told them that I would possibly be in trouble with my mortgage because of the higher payments (due to predatory taxation, not lenders) and asked if there was help. I was treated so kindly and immediately transferred (with a short hold time) to one of their escrow specialists.
I cannot say enough good things about the empathetic listening skills of the Countrywide agents I spoke to today. And while they cannot erase this big property tax bill that landed in my lap, they did spread the increased escrow over 60 months interest free. It lowered my payment enough to allow me to continue to make my normal accelerated principle payment and keep me in my home without worry. WHEW! It probably helped that I have never been a minute late on my mortgage payment and am proactive.

The Data Don't Justify Financial-Market Panic
I talk to small business owners every day for several hours to find advertising prospects. This is what I hear all day long, "we're swamped", "we are booked three months out", "we can't handle more business". Last week I called "A" rated dry wall companies listed on Angie's List to get some help with a project in my home. Only ONE company returned my call and told me he was very busy...so much so, that he didn't want to come to my house to do an estimate, but wanted me to send a picture of the project. What is coming out of Washington and the media does not fit what I'm hearing from Main Street.

Voter Registration Fraud in Indiana...the lawyer bloggers from Indiana Barrister, Ogden on Politics, and Advance Indiana weigh in
Abdul, one of the hardest working political journalists in Indiana, rang last night to set the record straight about ACORN'S activities here in Indiana and explains that 105% of Marion county citizens are not registered. He writes on his Indiana Barrister blog that the number of active registered voters is 561,234 voters and there are 118,415 inactive voters. Those are people who moved, died, or haven’t voted in at least one General election.
Yesterday, local activist/attorney/blogger Paul Ogden's assertion that 105% of our eligibles were registered made national news and was all over the net. FoxNews, in town to cover the Obama rally, interviewed him. Today, armed with more information, OGDEN ON POLITICS asserts that 92% of our eligibles are registered and suggests that it is highly unlikely voter registration penetration would be that high.
Over on ADVANCE INDIANA, Gary Welsh blasts Beth White, the Marion County clerk, for not purging the inactive registrations. He then rails against heavy democrat precincts and accuses them of not following Voter ID laws.
I called the clerk's office yesterday and spoke with a very agitated supervisor who suggested I was drinking Republican koolaid. I admit sometimes I partake in a sip or two, but much prefer the taste and effects of the Libertarian Juice. The clerk's office representative explained the lengthy process which requires more than two years to legally purge inactive voter registrations from the record. He also indicated that they received calls all day about it.
While I don't get cable television or often watch the controlled mainstream news propoganda, I did get emails this morning indicating that ACORN was the talking heads' topic du jour on the major news networks last night.
ACORN gets millions, yes MILLIONS, of your tax dollars every year to carry out their self-proclaimed non-partisan mission. However, it is obvious to most that ACORN (by their actions and associations) is anything but non-partisan. If ACORN were truly non-partisan it would not do its registrations only in the poorest neighborhoods which are heavily democratic, but would make an effort to extend its activities to ALL citizens regardless of race or economic status.
The organization has had many indictments and hopefully, this time, the wide spread exposure in the media of their lax voter registration efforts will lead to an effort to successfully outlaw their voter registration activities in America for good. And at the very least, block further earmarks and grants of public money to flow their way.
Everyone should be thankful that Indiana fought for the Voter ID law which helps keep our elections pure here.

Ogden on Politics ran a story yesterday detailing the inexplicable probability that 105% of Marion County eligibles are registered to vote. Paul Ogden, author of the blog, confirmed what Indianapolis residents have known for a long time...that the dead vote!
We just learned that Paul will be interviewed within the hour by FoxNews about our voter registration phenomenon.
Meanwhile the rest of the country that did not previously know, is learning simultaneously that ACORN, the community organization with a web of ties to Obama, has illegally registered tens of thousands of new voters across the country.
And to think, it was only yesterday that Paul Ogden emailed to ask if I had any idea why he got so many hits on his blog. He asked me because I helped to install his stat tracker, He thought it must be a mistake. I knew it was no mistake.
